I have changed.
And I’m glad I did.
I can sense it. My body, my mind, my feelings, are all…part of myself and not coming from distractions. This is the difference. Living your emotions and creating your own beliefs, rather than live what you learned to.
That’s how I started to live again.
A few weeks ago, I felt like trash though. I was waking up so early (And I don’t mind it), forcing myself to: Have a cold shower every morning. Meditate. And then, writing for at least an hour. Like a robot.
Follow the script and you’ll never feel like trash again!
But we’re human, following scripts isn’t our nature.
Inevitably, after a while, 3 things happen:
your mind starts getting annoyed
your body starts feeling tired
your energy level drops
How do you recognise it?
In my case, was pretty clear. I would wake up feeling tired. Cold showers felt like a punishment, and meditation was more something “I had to do”, rather than “I like doing”. Uh and writing, began to be a bit frustrating.
The funny thing is, I would keep doing all of them!
Why? Because deep inside were things I love.
Who wants to turn a lovely, healthy habit into a “task” that needs to be accomplished every day?
….
Nobody.
So I learned.
I learned to step back. In everything. It’s healthy to question the nature of why you do what you do. Especially if it’s something important. “Why do I want to meditate every morning?”. “Why do I want to see my lovely busy friend Bryan every week?”.
Because you like it!
Because it feels good!
Liking something means:
it gives you emotions
it feels right
it’s healthy
And, unless you are a self-sabotaging person, you want to keep your friends in your life.
So I started making some changes.
In my case, I started having less screen time before bed. Taking my lovely cold showers when I wanted to (or simply later in the morning). Changing where I would meditate, and placing a blanket or a spare pillow somewhere around me.
And last but not least, paying attention to my writing.
Precisely, when it’s for me & when for others.
If you are a writer, remember:
You can’t force creativity.
You can wake up as early as you want, but some days, ideas won’t come.
This is something worth discussing separately, but I’ll tell you 2 tricks:
journal
have morning walks
These are 2 of my favourite #hacks.
And to wrap this up:
If anything you used to enjoy, now feels more like a threatening task, ask yourself why. Make it fun again by changing how you do it and when you do it. Ask why you started in the first place and what has been missing ever since.
Slowly, fire up the flame again.
Thank god we are not robots.
